John C. Bullock assumed the office of Young County Judge January 1, 2011 and is currently serving his second term. Prior to being elected judge, Bullock represented Young County Precinct 2 as its commissioner for 20 years.
Jude Bullock is the presiding officer of the commissioners’ court, which appropriates funds to the various departments and oversees the county government’s general operations.
He also sits on the bench hearing class A and B criminal misdemeanors, and is the first appellate court for justice of the peace and municipal courts. The county judge also presides in civil matters including; probate, emergency and court ordered mental health issues, guardianships and Juvenile Court.
Judge Bullock graduated from Newcastle High School in 1969. He attended Tarleton State University earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 1974.
For 22 years, Bullock has been an active member of the Graham Lions Club. He serves on the Young County Farm Bureau Board and is currently the board president. For 9 years, Bullock was a trustee for the Newcastle Independent School District.
While in elected office, Judge Bullock has participated on numerous boards and committees including, Nortex Regional Planning Commission. Currently, Bullock is serving on the commission’s Executive Board which directs the general operations of the Commission and disburses state and federal grant funding. Bullock also serves on the commission’s Homeland Security Committee which makes recommendations to the Executive Board regarding security and emergency issues within the region.
Judge Bullock and wife, Micki, reside one mile west of the geographical center of Young County on part of the original cattle ranch established in 1883 by his great grandfather, J.C. Bullock. The Lazy J Ranch has been recognized as a Texas Historic Ranch by the Texas Department of Agriculture’s Family Land Heritage Program. Bullock is the 4th generation operating the ranch, which has been in continuous operation for more than 125 years as a production agriculture enterprise.
The Bullocks have been married for more than 41 years. Micki, a Licensed Dyslexia Therapist, leads the reading intervention program for Graham Independent School District. They have two grown children and one grandson.
